G-11 Epoxy
G-11 is a thermosetting industrial laminate consisting of a continuous
filament glass cloth material with a high temperature epoxy resin
binder. This grade was developed in the late 1950's to fill the
need for a higher temperature G-10 type material when used in printed circuit boards.
The mechanical and electrical properties of G-11 are excellent. G-11 is rated at 300 degrees F continuous operating temperature. As
with G-10, no melting will occur; however charring will occur after extended
periods above the temperature rating. Even at elevated temperatures,
G-11 has a low dielectric loss and has a retention of 50% of mechanical
properties at 300 degrees F. Because of these characteristics,
this material should be used in applications where temperatures
in excess of 125 degrees C are encountered.
Today, G-11 is used in many unrelated applications including high temperature,
cryogenic, and radiation.
